Seasonal Tips

Book July–August the moment reservations open — Island summer is a finite resource. Swim the supervised beaches; the Gulf's bars and currents deserve the respect the flags encode. Cycle the Gulf Shore Way between beaches — the park's best commute. September: warm water lingers, crowds don't. Stay off the marram grass — dunes are alive and slow to forgive.

About This Place

PEI National Park is the Island's north-shore ribbon made stayable: red sandstone bluffs, barrier dunes, and Gulf beaches running from Cavendish to Greenwich, with campgrounds placing tents behind the dunes at Cavendish and beside Stanhope's beach corridor. Parks Canada reservations govern (oTENTiks included), the season is proudly summer-forward, and the park's swimming — supervised beaches, water warmer than any Maritime stereotype — anchors family loyalty measured in generations.

The landscape asks gentleness: the marram grass holding the dunes dies underfoot, so boardwalks and designated paths are conservation infrastructure, and Greenwich's parabolic dune system (with its floating boardwalk) shows why the rules exist. Cavendish carries the Anne of Green Gables gravitational field and its services; Stanhope and Brackley trade fame for quieter sand. Fox families work the campgrounds with professional charm — feed nothing.
